CALOP

The Center for Algorithm and Optimization (CALOP) is a research center established at POSTECH in 2024 as part of the 30 Glocal Institutions Initiative, jointly supported by Korea’s Ministry of Education and POSTECH. CALOP aims to become a world-class research center by achieving excellence in foundational algorithm research and interdisciplinary studies, grounded in a profound exploration and understanding of algorithms and combinatorial optimization.

Complex problems are inherent parts of nature and society. Algorithms and combinatorial optimization are essential components of interdisciplinary research, offering insights across various fields of science and engineering by solving such complex problems. CALOP seeks to consolidate research expertise in algorithms and combinatorial optimization, advancing foundational research in these fields. Additionally, it aspires to establish itself as a “Research for Research” (R4R) hub, identifying interdisciplinary research challenges across the broader scientific and engineering fields. CALOP aims to contribute to society by discovering innovative solutions through the development of state-of-the-art algorithms and fostering convergence across disciplines.

알고리즘 및 최적화 센터(Center for Algorithm and Optimization, CALOP)는
글로컬대학30 사업의 일환으로 2024년 POSTECH에서 교육부와 POSTECH의 후원으로 설립된
연구 센터입니다. CALOP은 알고리즘 및 조합최적화에 대한 깊은 탐구와 이해를 바탕으로
기초 알고리즘 연구와 다학제간 연구를 통해 최고 수준의 학술적 성과를 창출할 수 있는
국제적 수준의 연구 센터가 되고자 합니다.

자연계와 사회에는 본질적으로 해결이 어려운 문제가 존재합니다. 알고리즘과 조합최적화는
이러한 고난이도 문제 해결을 통해 다양한 이공학 연구 분야에 대한 통찰을 제공하는
다학제간 연구의 필수 요소입니다. CALOP은 알고리즘 및 조합최적화 분야의 연구 역량을 결집해 기초 알고리즘 연구를 증진하고, 이를 기반으로 이공학계 전반의 융합연구 과제를 발굴하는 Research for Research (R4R) hub로 자리잡고자 합니다. CALOP은 첨단 알고리즘의 개발을
통해 혁신적 문제 해결법을 발견하고 학문 분야간 융합을 선도하여 사회에 기여하고자 합니다.
